I design the characters directly on the tablet rather than drawing them on paper before hand - I find it easier to keep up with my own thoughts that way. In this series I practiced making large watercolor swatches, photographing them, and then digitally layering them into my wacom tablet drawings. I started experimenting with this technique in the Ollie The Otter post, but I think in this series it has really blossomed. It's amazing how much the swatches saturate the color of the animals and makes them pop. Here's a before and after:
It's good fun to bring traditional art and digital art together.
